“The Professor” Promotes the FreezeAlarm™

On October 31, 2006, popular website www.coolest-gadgets.com reported on its latest love:  freeze alarms.  The site, which touts its “ongoing quest for the coolest gadgets available,” is only now clueing into a “cool gadget” that’s actually been around for over 20 years.

In 2006, Russell Johnson, better known as “The Professor” on the classic TV show “Gilligan’s Island,” appeared in a series of radio ads promoting the 20^th anniversary of the FreezeAlarm, manufactured by Control Products, Inc.  The FreezeAlarm™ brand of freeze alarms is the number one selling product for protecting users’ homes and vacation homes from damages caused by burst pipes, a common accident that can occur when bitter cold temperatures freeze household pipes.

In the radio ads, Johnson, whose voice was often the only voice of reason among those seven stranded castaways, advises listeners to “pick [a freeze alarm] up today – before the weather starts getting rough.”  It’s a clever reference to the “Gilligan’s Island” theme song: “The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed . . .”
