Did you know that most people that die in a fire don’t die because of the flames, but instead because of the smoke? This is why it is so important for you to have smoke detectors in your home. This will give your family the warning system they need to get to safety. Learn more about fire awareness now

Your family is your safe place in this world, but that can easily be taken away from you with one very real danger, fire. There are ways to prevent this from happening to your family, but you need to educate yourself on fire awareness. There are many ways to ensure that your family has the warning system that they will need if a fire should happen at your home. The first step is smoke detection.

Smoke detection is the most important because smoke is the number one killer in a fire. Most of the people that die in a fire are killed from smoke inhalation, instead of the flames. A lot of fires happen when people are sleeping and when you have no warning of the smoke; you will basically, just never wake up again and never be aware of what happened.

Smoke alarms will help your family be alerted to fire, which will give them time to get out and to safety. You want to place smoke alarms in each bedroom and in the main living areas of the home such as the living room and kitchen. Check your alarms once a month to make sure they are working correctly. Plus, twice a year, you need to change the batteries because an alarm that isn’t working will not save your life or your family’s lives.

There have been too many news stories done about people dying in fires due to smoke. There was one news story done by FindLay Living, which can be found at http://www.findlayliving.com/?p=258. In this news story they were reporting about fire fighters that were promoting fire awareness.

They state, “On average someone dies every 162 minutes and someone is injured every 32 minutes in the United States. Out of these statistics 50% of these homes do not have smoke detectors.”

They also gave many other fire awareness tips that you need to know. They state,

“Smoke Detector TIPS
• Install a smoke detector on each level of your home and inside
each bedroom.
• Familiarize children with the sound of your smoke detectors.
• Do not remove batteries to put in other appliances, such as
personal stereos or games.
• Smoke detectors wear out over time. Replace your smoke
detectors every 10 years.”

These are just a few of the fire awareness tips you need to know. Smoke detection will definitely give your family the warning system that they need to get out if a fire should happen. You want to make sure that you take the time to find the best smoke detectors for your home. With so many different types available, this can seem like a daunting task, but it really isn’t.

It is also a good idea for you to have carbon monoxide detectors to go along with the smoke detectors. You can never have too many warning systems set up to alert you when danger is near. You never know when one of these systems will save your life or your family’s lives. Your lives are too precious to take chances with.
