The first thing you need to consider is if you are going to want to buy a wired or wireless system. A good rule is if you are currently building a new home, you should go with a wired system because it will be easy to install. However, if you are adding the system to a preexisting building, you are going to want to go with the wireless system because you will save a lot of money on the installation that would need to be done installing a wired system.

The next thing you need to look at is the range you will be using for the system. There are three pieces to a driveway alarm system; the motion detector, the transmitter, and the receiver. The range is the distance between the transmitter and the receiver. You are going to need to identify where you will be placing the transmitter and motion detector on the driveway, and then where the receiver will be in your home. The distance between the two is your range.
