If you are a do-it-yourself kind of person, you are probably much more inclined to try and install your own home security system rather than have someone install it for you. This is fine if you know what you are doing. But the key is installing it correctly so you and your home are safe.
One of the first things that will catch your eye with self installed alarm systems is the price. Typically, when you install your own home security system it is going to cost you far less than having a professional do it. Although it is hard to put a price on the safety of your family, alarm systems can get quite expensive.
Most alarm systems that you install yourself are completely wireless and come with motion detectors and sirens. This is perfect for keeping burglars away or scaring them away after breaking and entering.
You will find that some of these can even be installed on light fixtures so you can easily turn them on and off whenever you choose to. It also will warn intruders prior to them even entering your home.
While all of this is good, one of the major drawbacks to these systems is that they are not monitored. You will be alerted, but no one else will be. There is not a monitoring station and it will not inform authorities. So is it really worth it to try and install your own home security system? That is something you are going to have to ask yourself and try to decipher the benefits from the downfalls.
