I thought in this article we could give you a quick checklist to help you keep track of your home security issues. Keeping your home safe is not hard, but it does require a little bit of up keep on a consistent basis.
Very simply put you want to make it hard for burglar to break into your home. You also want to keep them from even trying.
- All exterior doors should have quality cylinder locks as well as deadbolts. You want to do this on sliding glass doors too.
- The doors should be made of a quality material of solid wood or metal. Any doors that are easy to penetrate should only be used inside the home and not as an outside entrance.
- You should reinforce all door frames so that they cannot be kicked to break in.
- Keep all door hinges and window hinges on the inside of the house and not on the outside.
- Never keep a ladder on the outside of the house where burglar could use it to climb to a second story window.
- Keep all garages and storage sheds locked when you’re not using them to protect your tools or anything else that a burglar might find attractive.
- Do your landscaping from a standpoint of visibility. You want to be able to see out your windows. You also want your neighbors or anyone driving buying to be able to see your home. This will help provide more security for you and make it less likely a burglar would even want to come into your yard.
- Keep the outside of your home well lit and include installing motion sensor lighting.
