The objective for most thieves is to get in and out as quick as they can. That’s because they don’t want to get caught, but one thief or pair of thieves in Toledo, Ohio had to have taken some time to actually steal an entire boxing ring out of a boxing gym. The Associated Press reports what happened.
Boxers have long complained about being robbed in the ring. Well, now the ring itself has been stolen. The ring at Glass City Boxing was swiped sometime Sunday, WNWO-TV reported. Trainer Tom Urbina says if the ring is not returned the gym he may have to cancel upcoming boxing shows. The ring has been used since the 1970s by numerous local fighters including Devin Vargas, a heavyweight who made the 2004 U.S. Olympic team.
Urbina is urging anyone with information on the ring's whereabouts to contact Toledo police.
If you own a business, and don’t have a security system in place, this story should make you think twice about continuing to operate your business unguarded. This boxing ring heist would have taken some time to plan and execute, but had there been any kind of security system installed this likely would not have happened. Security systems are no longer extremely expensive to buy and install, especially if you decide to Do-It-Yourself.
Home Security Store makes it easy for you to buy and install your own surveillance system, starting at around $500. HSS breaks down the decision making into six steps outlining simple terms and choices. Bill Gehrett, in Newville, Pennsylvania utilized the system. He wanted to protect his tow-truck service and accessories shop, so he picked out, bought, and installed his own surveillance system.
Gehrett purchased a 4 channel standalone DVR, one infrared camera, two bullet cameras, one dome camera, a 15 inch monitor, and some other accessories needed. Rather than turn to a costly installer or security company, he installed the system himself and says he had no problem doing it. Gehrett spent $1500 and says it’s the best money he’s ever spent. So far, he has scared away two wannabe thieves. Had the Toledo boxing ring owner done the same, he would still have a ring for his fighters to fight in.
